Graceful Moon

Graceful Moon

The silent white tuft of moon
Hangs in quietness in blue
Observing my love of you

“Grace, I love the moon,
And I love you,
But I love you more than the moon.”

Lifeblood

Lifeblood

The embodied Word bleeds
When one speaks it
It pours out in hemorrhage
Giving Life for those who seek it.

Shroud

Shroud

The river runs red
Scarlet like a cord
Through a curtain
A garment of our Lord
Crimson and Purple
And Gold and dread
From thorn and head
Blood poured out—Royalty
In color and in crown
Until split in two—dead
And fallen to the ground

Broken Flowers

Broken Flowers

The little boy
Pleading
For us to buy
His flowers

Broken
Flowers

Stampeding
Down the mountainside

The little boy
Whimpering
Pleading
For us to buy

Flowers
Broken

The world is full
Of whimpers
Of pleading
Of broken flowers

They wrestle
Over the money
Pull him away
To the ground

Broken
Flower

Lays still
On the Ground
Broken
The world is full

Of flowers
Broken

White Man Tries to Tame the Dame

White Man Tries to Tame the Dame

White man wanted to make a lady out of Jazz,
But her promiscuity and free spirited rhythm
Would keep her out late at night with her own pizazz—
Not to be tamed, this dame, she’s a flapper it’s what she has.

The Atmosphere of Jazz

The Atmosphere of Jazz

Mr. Paul Arpee is soothed by Jazz
He rests in the ambiance any chance he has
When stress arises the song gives way
Leaving him relaxed to face another day.

Satchmo

Satchmo

Satchmo would hold the note
And would never let it go.
Go on Pops! Let it all out!
Play that tune while we dance and shout!
