Out on the Horizon

Out on the Horizon

Out on the horizon
beyond light’s bend
and the water’s end
all will transcend

Determination

Take Courage, photo by S Khan, from Flickr, Creative Commons

This National Poetry Month I will be posting a sequence of poems, written last year and this year, for others in a series called Giving Poetry. In this series, people request a poem using a title, specific words, concepts, or ideas. After writing the poem, I send it to them, posting it on Facebook and on my blog. This is Giving Poetry.

Determination

Determination: for Darlene

Determined,
she faces the night,
with grit and grace,
to face the fright.

Mullions

Window Through the View Finder,
photo from Flickr, by BotheredByBees

Mullions

Darkness falls nightly.
At dawn, as morning breaks,
The sunrise is framed
Light shines brightly
Through the window
Eliminating darkness’ shadow
Casting crosses in silhouette
Allowing hope’s expression to show
In shifting patterns of morning’s glow

Illumined

Ruby Light Bleed I, photo by liquid night

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” –John 8:12

Illumined

The Light bled the darkness
And took it for all it was worth.
Illuminating shadows—
Igniting new birth.

Warehouses of Steel

Hays Galleria / roof, photo by George Rex

Warehouses of Steel

Warehouses of steel
Flash by windows
Light flickers
Protruding through pine
Working tough through time

“The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” –John 1:5

Hierophany

Facing into a new night
Darkness
Did not comprehend
The Light
Facing into a new Light

Facing into a new Light
Light
Did not comprehend
The Darkness
Facing into a new night
