Oceans

Ocean, photo by Victor, from Flickr, Creative Commons

This National Poetry Month I will be posting a sequence of poems, written last year and this year, for others in a series called Giving Poetry. In this series, people request a poem using a title, specific words, concepts, or ideas. After writing the poem, I send it to them, posting it on Facebook and on my blog. This is Giving Poetry.

Concept: oceans

I love the ocean. It is never ending, reminding me of God’s love for us.

Oceans: for Fay Love

The vastness of the oceans
spread wide as arms
open in longing for embrace.
The peaceful shoreline welcoming,
the silent breeze whispering His love,
the depths swallow—all forgiving.
As far as the east is from the west,
as wide as the current’s tide,
as deep as the oceans,
God’s love and forgiveness abides.

“Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!” –Micah 7:19, NLT

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” –Psalm 103:12, NIV

Grace Like Waves

Labadee, Haiti, photo from Flickr, by Jorge in Brazil

Grace Like Waves

Grace gently rises
With the waves
As she splashes and plays
With smiles and laughter
In the puddle of the ocean

Love Carries

Ocean, photo by Stephen Edgar, from Flickr

Love Carries

Love carries like an ocean’s tide
Carries along two lovers
By the shoreline
The cold wind against them
Under overcast skies
As they bask in the sunlight
Of love filled eyes
