The Rain Stopped

The rain
began
slowly
in droplets
again
it fell
crystallizing
the pace of the day

Crave

"Moses Shown The Promised Land," by Benjamin West, from Wikiart.org

Crave

A land
Flowing
With life
Sweet and golden
Glowing
A nurturing nectar
Milky sweet
Life flows from the land
From the fountain
Of His hand

"If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey." (Numbers 14:8, ESV)

Write a poem about typewriters, for Mark.

Typewriters: for Mark and Joshua

Too many words
you leave
patiently inked
eloquently constructed
written in love
resourcefully
inscribed
in type.
Every machine has a story,
As real as the words you create.
Soulful.

Covenant love: spire, reflection, wave, red, beard, moss

Covenant Love: for Barry

Covenant love,
as old as the beard of father time,
binding as moss to the oak tree,
sealed in red blood,
shed for you and for me,
lifted up in spire,
a wave of grace, promise, and love,
which will never tire,
in the reflection up above.

Poem on vibrant and personal worship

Silence: The Words of Worship: for Jim

When my words fail,
I sit in silence
as you sing over me.

Confidante: twinkle eyes bare feet broom

Confidante: for Kimberly

We danced
in bare feet,
sweeping
as a broom
at twilight.
The twinkle
of our love filled eyes
lit up the room.

flooding joy—sublime.

Title: Glimpses

Words: waiting, opportunity, choices

Glimpses: for Martha

We catch glimpses
of our heart’s desires,
when our souls take breath,
belabored and tired,
in aches of sorrow,
while waiting on tomorrow,
as opportunity gives way
in the choices displayed.

Resilience. An overheard conversation. Soil.

Eavesdropping on the Divine: for Ed

We listened,
though we never meant to pry.
We wanted answers.
We needed to know why.

We heard, “The same soil that sprouted
the grass that withers,
and the flower that fades,
nurtures the Word—resilience.”

Hope: for Linda

Hope sprouts wings,
she flies and she sings,
a prayer for tomorrow
the removal of all sorrow.

“Hope springs eternal,”
so the saying goes.
It’s because hope knows.

Concept: oceans

I love the ocean. It is never ending, reminding me of God’s love for us.

Oceans: for Fay Love

The vastness of the oceans
spread wide as arms
open in longing for embrace.
The peaceful shoreline welcoming,
the silent breeze whispering His love,
the depths swallow—all forgiving.
As far as the east is from the west,
as wide as the current’s tide,
as deep as the oceans,
God’s love and forgiveness abides.

Concept: Agape Love

Agape Love: for Crysty

The true friend, the sister, the brother,
looks beyond the self and to the other.
The Christian’s love doth commune!
It spills out into service and makes room—
space and time, for people, the body, His bride—
God’s church—under His cross—under His steeple.
Agape love is broken as bread and intertwines.
It pours out in communion wine—in joy—as we dine.
Agape love is a feast of fellowship divine.
His life and love poured out for yours and for mine.

Title: Seeing the Flowers

Concept: something about seeing the flowers instead of the mountains

Seeing the Flowers: for Elaine

The splendor of the rolling hills
and peaks captivated him for hours.
Their majesty and splendor towered.

She reflected. Through the windowpane,
flowers emerged, as the landscape waned
from brown, to green, to color stained.

The blooms blew gently in the spring breeze.
Their colors rolled in shades of red and purple hue.
“Look!” she exclaimed. He replied, “This mountain view!”

He saw the mountains, while she saw the flowers.
There is something about seeing
the flowers instead of the mountains.

Healing Words: for Marcy

Healing words
They breathe life
Like balm and salve
They soothe
Nurturing the soul
Encouraging
They extol
Nurturing
They make us whole

God's beautiful gift to us

God's Beautiful Gift To Us: for Fred

God's beautiful gift to us
Was wrapped small and tight
In swaddling clothes
In the star lit night

Heaven and earth collided
In manger and in stall
To reveal the love of God
For one and for all

God's beautiful gift to us
In a package humble and small
Ushers in God’s Kingdom
Giving life and restoration to the fall

For the sunrise
To usher in the spring
For planting and sewing
And then the harvest
The fruits Jesus would bring

Fire

Tongues set down like fire
on burning hearts
and burning desire.
Passion arises from within,
as the Spirit moves
and blows in the wind,
rushing over and in
and pouring out from within.
Fire! Let revival begin!

In the Stillness of the Gaze

Photo of Haitian man, and inspiration,
courtesy of the artist, Steven Baboun.

In the Stillness of the Gaze

So much emotion,
held in the stillness,
in the stare—in the gaze.

Beneath the armor of intimidation,
The Light breaches through the gaze,
through the stillness, through the resolution,
through the old age—through the haze.

The hope we hold, that when we are older,
our eyes speak our stories, and our stare reflects
the struggles, the successes, the scars,
the blood, the sweat, and the tears that are ours.

My Name is Ash

Cry The Blood, by Jack Baumgartner,
photo from The School of the Transfer of Energy

i am erth poetry
Based on Cry the Blood, i am erth, by Jack Baum

For a soundtrack to this poem, listen to the last track here.

My Name is Ash

From ashes to ashes
From dust to dust
When the mountain falls
We are crushed
Pummeled to dust and grave
Weary under the weathered
Parched and hostile land
We waited on the rain
The drop from heaven
That would spring The Garden
To new life from desolation
Broken over the rock of ground
And the sweat of the brow
My name called, as it knew how

My friend Jack Baumgartner recently released his album “Cry The Blood”, from i am earth, Jack Baumgartner. This is a heartfelt and sacrificial work of pilgrimage. The blood sweat and tears in this music cries out in beautiful heart felt harmony. This work is organic in sound and is simply beautiful. I am moved. This is music for the soul. If you are going to buy an album this year, well, this one has breath and life in it. It cries the blood.

Lift Erth Rise

Cry The Blood, by Jack Baumgartner,
photo from The School of the Transfer of Energy

i am erth poetry
Based on Cry the Blood, i am erth, by Jack Baum

For a soundtrack to this poem, listen to the last track here.

Lift Erth Rise

All rises on the rhythm of time
Eternity and hope rises
Lifts from the expanse
Manifests from the divine dance
And rises from nothingness
From matter strewn swirl
And darkened and watery deep
There, the Ghost hovered
Until all did rise—lift erth—rise
